Saturday Centus, Chapters 1-4

I'm participating in Saturday Centus, hosted by Jenny Matlock.

Each week we are provided a writing prompt and charged with the task of using that prompt and an additional 100 words to create a short, short, short story. It's an exercise in using your imagination and having a good time.

This week I'm collaborating with my good friend Vicki @ Change In A Bottle to create what I like to think of as a rolling work, done in multiple chapters. The prompt in each chapter is blue:

Chapter One (Vicki)

Hot as Hades, slimy, sultry and just plain evil. That's the only way to describe today's fickle personality.

Tom's gone on another business trip for the week, Jenny's off doing her own thing and I'm wallowing in the sweet taste of time for myself.

Maybe I should finish redecorating that extra room. I've put it off so long the cobwebs and dust bunnies are doing the Lindy Hop across the ceiling.

Maybe I should answer some letters.

Maybe I'll sit for awhile and read that book Helen said was so good. Let's see, oh yes, back to the road trip...

"Driving six hours is a long time on the road. Six hours spent singing car-aoke and taking in the picturesque scenery, but mostly reminiscing about the good times. But those days were long gone and my mind was in a different place now. Or was it? My pulse quickened as I passed the road sign which read "Medford 27 miles."

Chapter Two (PJ – under duress)

Hmmm. Nothing too imaginative about that paragraph. This book won’t make it past the 50 page test.

The darn phone! Doesn’t that just figure?

“Hello? Hi Tom, how are ya? Good! Good!I’m so glad. Just fine. Thought I’d read some. She spent the night at that nice girl, Mallory’s house. You and me both. Okay.Have a good day! Talk to you later! Love you.”

Some sweet tea would really hit the spot.Oops! Don’t forget the phone this time. Duh!

Now where was I with this Pulitzer prize winning masterpiece? How could I forget?

"Driving six hours is a long time on the road. Six hours spent singing car-aoke and taking in the picturesque scenery, but mostly reminiscing about the good times. But those days were long gone and my mind was in a different place now. Or was it? My pulse quickened as I passed the road sign which read "Medford 27 miles."

I smell romance novel….

Chapter 3 (Vicki)

" What do you mean you spent it all?"

Tom's in that mood again, mad because I went shoe shopping. Men just do not understand the 'need' a woman has for this indulgence.

What did he think I'd do with a free week, write a novel or something?

And of course Jenny is on one too. Flitting around like some crazed butterfly being chased by a ravenous flock of birds. What's she started now?

Then the call from Helen this morning, asking if I've read the last pages of her book yet. What's the big mystery?

Now, where did I stop....

Chapter Four (PJ – still under duress)

You’d think the first paragraph would grab you. Bah!

“Bzzzz! Bzzzz!”

Sheesh! MY friends don’t ring the doorbell!

“No, Jenny’s not home. Out with Mallory. Why don’t you TRY. HER. CELL. PHONE.”

I’m going to start this book if it’s the last thing I do.

Hmm. When was the last time we painted in here? It sure could use a little lift. Terracotta would be nice.

Okay, where was I?

"Driving six hours is a long time on the road. Six hours spent singing car-aoke and taking in the picturesque scenery, but mostly reminiscing about the good times. But those days were long gone and my mind was in a different place now. Or was it? My pulse quickened as I passed the road sign which read "Medford 27 miles."

Reading the same paragraph for 6 hours is a long time too. It would have been quicker if I’d driven to Medford myself. I should look for the Cliffs Notes…

My Photo
I love God, my family and friends, animals and, while I know I shouldn't love "things", I love my home. I'm not fond of the color pink unless it's the work of Mother Nature (apparently not a popular opinion in 'blog land'), I DESPISE whining, I won't allow beets anywhere in my home or garden, and I don't understand why humanity can't play nice and share. -->PS. This blog is not Switzerland; I'm neutral in nothing. :)
